Machine Not DispensingUpdated 3 days ago
If the machine is making noise, but nothing is being dispensed, the gaskets in the unit might be stuck, preventing the liquid from flowing. Alcohols, especially whiskey and dark rum, contain sugars and other additives that may build up in small amounts if allowed to sit for extended periods of time. If these build ups are allowed to continue it may impact the gaskets as noted.
The following steps may help resolve the issue:
Descaling the machine
The most important step is to complete a descaling cycle with white distilled vinegar, listed on page 12 of this manual, or using our Bartesian Appliance Cleaning Solution. This is recommended monthly for normal maintenance. While performing the maintenance, if your machine is not pulling liquid, dry out the spirit ports and reservoir port using a paper towel before following the instructions to descale.
If the machine has not been used or had the descaling/rinsing/transport cycles done for an extended period, use straight vinegar or the solution. Allowing the solution to sit inside the unit for at least 45 minutes or even overnight in between pressing Rinse/Clean helps the vinegar break down any buildup on the lines and valves that has accumulated. Repeat steps 4-6 until liquid dispenses. This can take up to 10-15 tries depending on the severity of the block. If successful, remember to rinse the system out with cool, clean water using the “Rinse” feature.
Resetting the Reservoir
If you’re finding only the water reservoir is not dispensing, there are a few other solutions you can look at. Keep in mind, most cocktails use only a small amount of water, only 10ml (2 teaspoons) in many cases, so water may be dispensed even if it’s not immediately obvious.
To troubleshoot the reservoir, remove it from the unit, hold it over a sink, then press into the opening in the bottom to depress the spring and release some of the water. This will ensure that this gasket is working properly. While at the sink, wash the water reservoir with warm soapy water.
With the reservoir off the machine, use this opportunity to clean the water sensor (the small area at the base of the unit where the water reservoir attaches) with a clean cloth. When installing the water reservoir back onto the unit, please make sure the tabs on the top of the reservoir latch to the back of the Bartesian. Install at an angle, then push the top to the back of the unit while sliding the reservoir down firmly. It should come down over the water sensor and be flush with the unit.
At this point it’s a good idea to complete a first use cycle. This step is to prime the pump and should be completed continuously until water is released. It may prime in 1-3 cycles, sometimes it takes 5-10 cycles. This will depend on the machine and your environment. If it seems to be struggling, lift and lower the full water reservoir firmly a few times during the cycle to help push water into the internal lines. Please do not install a capsule until water dispenses. You can test with an empty capsule and select mocktail to avoid waste (ensure the bar code isn't damaged).
